About

Welcome to English at Its Roots!

Here, language is more than just communication — it’s a gateway to history, culture, and deep human connection. My mission is to uncover the hidden layers of English by tracing it back to its earliest forms, from Old English and Proto-Germanic roots to its links with other ancient languages like Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, and beyond.

I hold degrees in Linguistics and Philosophy, and I’ve been passionate about historical linguistics and comparative grammar for many years. I began studying Old English in 2008, and since then I’ve dedicated myself to exploring the history and structure of languages. I’ve taught Modern English for over 10 years and Old English for 4 years, always seeking to bring these worlds to life for my students.

In my teaching, I draw from a blend of different pedagogical methods. My goal is not just to explain the language, but to help students think directly in their target language, so that their learning feels natural, intuitive, and alive.

Beyond teaching, I also share my work online: I run the YouTube channel English at Its Roots, and I connect with learners and language enthusiasts on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. These platforms allow me to make ancient languages and modern linguistics engaging and accessible to anyone who’s curious about the deep roots of English.

I believe that by understanding the past of a language, we empower its future. Let’s rediscover English — from the roots up.
